California residents, I’m embarrassed for you. What is wrong with your Supreme Court?
Today’s decision to uphold Proposition 8 is disappointing, though not surprising. What I don’t get is that they’re letting some same-sex marriages stand. I read a good interpretation of that bit on Twitter today: “the early gay gets the bouquet.”
Here’s an interesting response to today’s ruling, an article titled The Big Gay Shrug.
Someday. Someday our kids will wonder what the big deal was.
A majority vote does not make a wrong right. Case in point,70% of voters once did not approve of interracial marriage. And now, that's laughable.
ReplyDeleteI think the Mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom, said it best when he reminded people that marriage is the goal not civil unions because "separate but equal" doesn't work. Remember?
And 55 years after Brown v. Board of Education we should have come so much further.
