Mar. 21: Buncha rednecks

Kathy and I like to joke about our extended family being a little bit, um, red of the neck. I don’t know if any of them are as bad as our dad always made them sound—he pretty much thought he was better than everyone, family or not—but the fact that many of them live in southern Oregon doesn’t hurt the illusion. If nothing else, it creates much laughter when we’re all together.

Our mom planned a Saltmarsh get-together (or “ron-day-voo,” if you prefer) at her house this afternoon so Kathy could see a bunch of family members during her quick visit this week. Our cousin Deanna (a frequent commenter here at stuff Jen says) had a few tricks up her sleeve, it seems:

She got a bunch of our cousins to dress up like real rednecks, complete with Billy Bob teeth for a few. They packed their guns and Hamm’s and posed for an honest-to-goodness Saltmarsh family portrait. Actually, these are just a few members of the Saltmarsh family—there are about a hundred more roaming around the Medford area, probably looking almost nothing like that (we hope).

Interesting shirt on my sister, isn’t it? Deanna provided that, too. Take a gander:

And we thought Handerpants were extreme! THIS would have made our dad right proud.

My favorite picture of the day, however, was the one that made me feel a little bit like I was there.

Because yes, kainsur DOES suk.

To my crazy cousin and mom and sister types, thanks for the laughs. I can certainly always count on you for those! ♥

  1. Jen -- it was such a fun time -- my only regrets were that you weren't there AND the need for the sign.... I love you!!

  2. Love it! If either of us had a redneck 'photo shoot' in our hood, all the neighbors would be out oogling and most likely making a few calls to 911 :).

  3. Holy crap! It's the guns--and the bra--that did it for me.

  4. Are those tidy whities on the dog, too??? Hilarious stuff! Reminds me of my mom's side of our family.
