Apr. 2: Thursday Thunks #1

Trying something new today.

  1. thursdaythunksDid you play any April Fools jokes on anyone or have a joke played on you?
I think it’s hard to do a really good April Fools joke when people are expecting it. My friend Laura posted on Facebook that a rat she’s heard in her walls ran across her bed during the night, and that had me going for a little bit; I started to reply with a big ol’ OMG and then thought (hoped) it was probably a joke. I was also a little concerned when Curt wrote that he was enjoying reading Battlefield Earth and wanted to start a Scientology discussion group. Yikes.
  2. If you could be on any non-reality TV show as a guest star or star, which one would it be and why?
I’m not super keen on being watched. Could I be a background extra? Then I’d love to be on Bizarre Foods, making puke faces over all that freaky junk Andrew Zimmern eats.
  3. Do you crack your knuckles?
    I can. I don’t.
  4. If you remember your first day of kindergarten, were you scared or excited? If you have kids or grandkids, were they scared or excited?
I remember vividly my first day of kindergarten, what I was wearing, finding my cubby, sitting at a table and coloring. I was a little bit scared but mostly excited to finally be able to go to school just like my big sis. I think both my kids were excited about kindergarten, especially Katie.
  5. If you are in the shower, hear the fire alarm going off and smell smoke/see flames, will you just run out of the house with a towel on or grab some clothes and dress as you run out?
    Definitely get dressed first.
  6. Last week the Thursday Thunkers asked about your Daddy (twice), so this week tell us a little about your Mom.
I wrote a whole bunch about my mom a couple weeks ago.
  7. Which search engine do you use most often?
    Google
  8. Did you participate in Earth Hour?
    No.
  9. What was the last new-to-you movie you watched? Was it in the theater or on DVD? Was it good?
Bolt, on DVD. It was alright, better than I expected but nothing like a Pixar flick.
  10. If you do something embarrassing, do you laugh it off, or sit and worry about it?
It depends, but I usually worry about stupid stuff I’ve done.
  11. Ours is like this but with a denim coverWhere is your favorite spot in your home to sit and relax?
The puff rocker we bought for the nursery nine years ago, which is now in our living room, is probably my favorite. It’s really comfy and often makes me fall asleep. Scout has always thought it belonged to her so sometimes I have to fight her for it. Also, I like that it’s now in the living room because that’s often the only neat room in the house. It feels peaceful just to sit and look around at the non-clutter.

As always, now it’s your turn. Answer in a comment or on your own blog and post a link and/or at the Thursday Thunks site. Thanks for playing.

What is THURSDAY THUNKS? Thursday Thunks (TT) is a blog meme for those who need a little kick in the butt to find something to post about. Your blog posts/answers to TT’s can be type or pictures, doesn’t matter! YOU pick, not us, we just give you the assignment (yep, just like English class... only we won’t grade your spelling and grammar).

Maybe they won’t grade your spelling and grammar, but *I* will. No—no, I won’t grade it, but I will secretly judge and mock you. Big surprise, huh?

  1. My son is slightly obsessed with Bolt right now and my husband also LOVES it - I like it, but nowhere near as much as those two nuts! :P

Great answers. Thanks for playing! :)

  3. Hi thanks for stopping by my blog! Yes I am in Oregon, Hillsboro, actually! How is that for a small world! I love Burgerville shakes, and their onion rings and sweet potato fries when they have them! I wonder if that is why my shape is round? :-)

  4. Did you play any April Fools jokes on anyone or have a joke played on you?

Neither. My cousin, Matt, summed up my feelings nicely on his status on FB yesterday writing that this holiday is a "tier two holiday for the weak minded." I can only guess that means someone got him really good.

If you could be on any non-reality TV show as a guest star or star, which one would it be and why?

Non-reality show? New Adventures of Old Christine. Am I reading that correctly?

    Do you crack your knuckles?
No even though every single joint in my body is capable of that which makes me fear being elderly.

If you remember your first day of kindergarten, were you scared or excited? If you have kids or grandkids, were they scared or excited?

I started first grade at 5 and didn't attend Kindergarten. I remember it well. Plaid dress, patent leather shoes with white anklets. I was thrilled. Loved school. My kids all seemed excited also. They're fearless.

If you are in the shower, hear the fire alarm going off and smell smoke/see flames, will you just run out of the house with a towel on or grab some clothes and dress as you run out?

In case it's something newsworthy and the press is out front - I better at least grab my robe...and kids, right?

Last week the Thursday Thunkers asked about your Daddy (twice), so this week tell us a little about your Mom.

My mom grew up in the 1950's. I can sum her up in one word...Lovely.

Which search engine do you use most often?

    Yahoo. Always.

Did you participate in Earth Hour?

How could I watch what was going on with Earth Hour on the internet and t.v. if I cut my power? Duh.

What was the last new-to-you movie you watched? Was it in the theater or on DVD? Was it good?

    Roman Holiday on AMC. Great.

If you do something embarrassing, do you laugh it off, or sit and worry about it?

I'm past 40. I laugh at everything about myself. :)

Where is your favorite spot in your home to sit and relax?

The only place I really feel relaxed in my house is my bedroom. I usually spend the evenings there sitting on my bed with my laptop, that day's episode of Young & Restless and Ellen and/or the new Vanity Fair. As close to heaven as I get in my home life.

  5. # Did you play any April Fools jokes on anyone or have a joke played on you?
No, but I have a cousin whose birthday is on April Fools and I used to have a great time with him when we were kids.

    # If you could be on any non-reality TV show as a guest star or star, which one would it be and why?
I'd be on Oprah because she wants the world to know about the book I just wrote (currently in my dreams!)

    # Do you crack your knuckles?
My grandmother always told me it would give me big knuckles, and I'm still haunted by that belief.

    # If you remember your first day of kindergarten, were you scared or excited? If you have kids or grandkids, were they scared or excited?
I remember getting a watch when I went to kindergarten because I'd learned how to tell time--but not on the first day. I remember my girls first day--I cried!

    # If you are in the shower, hear the fire alarm going off and smell smoke/see flames, will you just run out of the house with a towel on or grab some clothes and dress as you run out?
I'd run out with a towel--then my neighbors would run back into their homes.

    # Last week the Thursday Thunkers asked about your Daddy (twice), so this week tell us a little about your Mom.

She tells lots of stories--the same ones, but each time her memories come out differently!

    # Which search engine do you use most often?
    Google

    # Did you participate in Earth Hour?
Yes--I left the house and went to hear my brother doing his gig. I left all my lights off at home.

    # What was the last new-to-you movie you watched?
I watched Smile the other night.

    # If you do something embarrassing, do you laugh it off, or sit and worry about it?
At my age, I just laugh it off.

    # Where is your favorite spot in your home to sit and relax?
Probably in my den on my new double chair--I can read or nap and am quite comfortable.

  8. Did you play any April Fools jokes on anyone or have a joke played on you?
Not on me personally, but a friend of Corinne's texted that her boyfriend of two months had proposed... and that was a bit of shock. We both fell for it.

If you could be on any non-reality TV show as a guest star or star, which one would it be and why?
Top Chef, absolutely. And not any other one. Ever.

Do you crack your knuckles? No.

If you remember your first day of kindergarten, were you scared or excited? If you have kids or grandkids, were they scared or excited? Don't remember my first day, and don't even remember whether Seth was or not on his first day. How pathetic.

If you are in the shower, hear the fire alarm going off and smell smoke/see flames, will you just run out of the house with a towel on or grab some clothes and dress as you run out? Robe, definitely, but don't need the whole outfit.

Last week the Thursday Thunkers asked about your Daddy (twice), so this week tell us a little about your Mom.
My mom is wonderful. Fun, interesting, always reading and learning, creative, inspiring, a great cook, a great shopper, a fabulous grandma.

Which search engine do you use most often?

Did you participate in Earth Hour?
No. I read a lot about it, but decided that as I was packing for a trip that night, I didn't have an hour to give in this way. Seemed mostly symbolic.

What was the last new-to-you movie you watched? Was it in the theater or on DVD? Was it good?
He's Just Not That Into You, in the theater. It was a very confused film. That's the best thing I can say about it. And yes, I knew it was going to be that bad going in.

If you do something embarrassing, do you laugh it off, or sit and worry about it?
Usually worry about it. Unless I am just SO clueless that I completely missed my faux pas. That's happened too. Then there's double worrying later...

Where is your favorite spot in your home to sit and relax?
Up on the master bed, looking out the windows at the alfalfa and the new house just built in our view (grr). It's still relaxing...

  9. 1. Did you play any April Fools jokes on anyone or have a joke played on you?
No. It is the worst day to do practical jokes. Everyone is skeptical already, unless, of course, they have no calendar. I loved the one on FB that my friend's sister did. She posted that she is pregnant with twins. She is pregnant, but she only has one bun in there. Funny.

    2. If you could be on any non-reality TV show as a guest star or star, which one would it be and why?
I love House, so I would love to be a patient with some unknown illness.

    3. Do you crack your knuckles?
I have to agree with Jen. I am sure I can, but I just don't do it.

    4. If you remember your first day of kindergarten, were you scared or excited? If you have kids or grandkids, were they scared or excited?
I don't remember it too well. I remember posing for pictures in the driveway and getting on the school bus. After that, it is a blur. My kids aren't old enough...yet.

    5. If you are in the shower, hear the fire alarm going off and smell smoke/see flames, will you just run out of the house with a towel on or grab some clothes and dress as you run out?
At least my robe, if nothing else.

    6. Last week the Thursday Thunkers asked about your Daddy (twice), so this week tell us a little about your Mom.
I will briefly discuss both of my parents since I have not written about either. My dad turns 81 in August. He is a retired bricklayer, and he is the funniest man. He is a a man of fewer words. He has always been able to convey his feelings, opinions, etc., with fewer words than other people I know. It was incredibly important to him that his children (especially his daughters, I think) go to college. My first goal in my adult life was to graduate from college. I am glad I was able to do that.
My mom will be 75 this year. She is very dedicated to her family. I see some of her in my "Mom" traits (in a good way). I see how she spoils my children with her love, and I hope that I do that, too. She was a stay-at-home mom for the better part of 33 years, and I love her for it. She is very Catholic, and she is a Eucharist minister. I know she loves that role.
I am very proud to be one of their children, and I am thankful that they are healthy and happy in their retirement years. They have been married for almost 54 years. Something to shoot for.

    7. Which search engine do you use most often?
    Yahoo

    8. Did you participate in Earth Hour?
    No.

    9. What was the last new-to-you movie you watched? Was it in the theater or on DVD? Was it good?
I saw The Reader in the theater. Kate Winslet won the Oscar for Best Actress. I believe that she earned that award in that role. I highly recommend it.

    10. If you do something embarrassing, do you laugh it off, or sit and worry about it?
If I worry about something I have said or done, it is usually because I may have hurt and/or offended someone.

    11. Where is your favorite spot in your home to sit and relax?
My favorite has to be the recliner in the living room. It has a great view of the front lawn (and the neighborhood). I often feel like Mrs. Kravitz in that chair. I can see a lot of activity from there. When I was most recently pregnant, it was the most comfortable for me to be reclined in that chair with a big heavy blanket over me.

  10. OK, I'm an idiot... or at the very least a skippy scattered reader... what part of NON-reality show did I not get? Alas. I would not really envision being part of any TV show other than Top Chef, just to clarify. Whew. I feel better now. I hope you do as well...

  12. Sher, I don't think "Bizarre Foods" is a non-reality show either, so I guess NEITHER of us can follow directions!
